This seven storey 1970’s office block is situated near Oxford Street and has been extended to provide five floors of additional space to the rear of the site.
WCJ Ltd were appointed as Structural Engineer as part of a multi- disciplined team of consultants led by project managers.
The original building structure has been formed in precast concrete over a basement storey and occupies the full plan area of the site.
Relatively shallow Royal Mail tunnels are located below the site. This drove the structural solution to utilise a lightweight steel framed extension, employing composite metal deck floors. Loads were conveyed to transfer beams spanning between existing foundations, which were justified as capable of bearing the increase in loading, thereby avoiding the expensive new foundations.
