The Crown Inn

This historic, part oak framed public house is located in a beautiful village location. The main and ancillary buildings were virtually destroyed by a devastating fire caused by a lightning strike.
WCJ Ltd was initially employed by the pub management company to assess the fire damaged structure and provide initial recommendations to render the building in a safe condition.
Initial stabilisation works entailed substantial demolition work to remove fire damaged fabric and unstable structure. To protect the remaining building fabric from the elements, a substantial scaffolded temporary roof was provided over the building.
The building is statutorily listed and therefore complete demolition was not an option for the owners. After providing initial planning consultancy services, we became heavily involved in negotiations with the statutory authorities regarding the nature and extent of the proposed remedial works. An intricate survey of the remaining structure was undertaken to schedule repairs to individual structural components.
As part of the renovation works, the building owners wished to provide an extension to the side and rear of the building to provide a larger dining area. WCJ Ltd were subsequently instructed to undertake both preliminary and detailed architectural and structural engineering design and prepare formal tender documents for the reinstatement, comprehensive refurbishment, extension and alteration of the building.
