WCJ Ltd were initially retained to provide design services for a project to construct a new “glass box” structure and exhibition space to enhance the new main entrance to the college.
Works also included the design and detailing of a new mezzanine floor within the existing theatre space to enable performances of “theatre in the round”. The mezzanine structure also includes a manually operated counter-balanced drawbridge which can be lifted to enable large sets or scenery to be placed within the theatre. This work formed part of an overall theatre refurbishment and improvement project.
In addition a significant two-storey extension was provided to the theatre, encompassing an archive storage facility, complete with full climate control and 4-hour fire resistance.
Subsequent projects undertaken on the same site include the design of new overhead lighting gantries suspended from existing trusses, to enable teaching of lighting techniques.
We are currently working on a new project for the Client at the Camberwell College of
Art, which encompasses the installation of a new passenger lift and a high level glazed walkway linking two adjacent buildings at 1st floor level.
